We have teamed up with British Backcountry to offer members a Ski Touring Journey Day.

Date Saturday 9th March 2024

Cost £60.83 per person + £2.13 PayPal booking fee – total cost £62.96

Equipment: Members who have their own ski touring kit and equipment can use this on the day if they wish. Members who do not have ski touring kit and equipment can hire from British Backcountry. Any equipment hire requirements will be required in advance of the day to allow British Backcountry time to organise the correct ski boot sizes, skis, skins, poles etc. Members who book will be contacted in advance to check if they require ski and equipment hire.

Location: To be confirmed dependent on conditions

The Ski Touring Journey Day is for Intermediate & Advanced Skiers and Snowboarders.

The Ski Touring Journey Day will be an opportunity to:

  • become more familiar with ski touring equipment including skins, ski crampons and different types of bindings
  • master skinning technique (including kick turns)
  • learn the theory of terrain choice and avalanche avoidance
  • introduce avalanche transceiver searches when possible; and to be given coaching tips on your downhill ski performance.

PRE-REQUISITES

You will need to be confident getting down a black run and have a good level of fitness.

It is likely we will ascend around 1000 vertical metres so imagine climbing a munro but with a bit more weight on your feet.

It is hoped that the first ascent should not take more than two hours, although there will likely be at least two climbs in the day.

Both the ascent and descent will normally be less than 30 degrees, but the snow conditions may be variable.

You should be happy to ski in unpredictable and changeable snow, although tactics to help tackle this will be covered in the course.

Please complete the form below (it is the same one that we use for Condor so bear with us please and fill in what you can anyway!)

You will also receive a separate form by email that the Backcountry team need you to complete.
